I am now over 40. Still doesn’t sound right but there you go.
The party was a blast. Unbeknown to me my partner had arranged some live entertainment, and I don’t mean a stripper.
I had jokingly said to her that I would only have a 40th party if the Fyshwicks played.
I guess some background in order. One of my friends is a musician and one of his friends released a CD called ‘The Shiftless Merle Fyshwick’. It’s a really great CD.
Anyhow I forgot about the ultimatum and decided that facing being 40 was better than being sad about it and I do enjoy a good party where I don’t have to drive. So the big night arrives and I drop my son of at the baby sitter and head home. Within a few minutes Dave (my muso friend), his partner and another guy come in. Now I have never met Merle before so when we were introduced I was a bit surprised. I complimented him on the CD. Then Dave says “Where should we west up”. Wow, they had all the gear together for an acoustic set in the car.
What can I say. I was overawed. It got even better than that. My partner had feed them a pile of facts about me and they wrote a song. Unbelievable.
I was watching a TV documentary a few weeks before about this Canadian kid who had raised cash for water supplies in Africa. He eventually got to go and see the fruits of his good work and in gratitude the locals made a song for him. I commented to my partner how cool it would be to be immortalised, she just smiled and nodded….
